NJ Phillips Manual Splatter Gun 20mL is designed to shoot a stream of concentrate herbicide, not a spray. This stream is delivered in a single line out to around ten metres, with each line separated by about two metres.

The concentration of herbicide is increased, so there is not the normal requirement to wet all the foliage. As a bonus, the total volume of herbicide used is decreased.

Splatter gun can be used in ecologically sensitive areas. When treating large areas of woody weed the reduced chemical run-off minimises collateral damage to other plants and encourages native species to regenerate through the dead foliage. The focused nature of the herbicide jet makes it possible to selectively remove woody weeds from around valuable plants. Experienced users can deliver minimal, carefully directed doses to small plants.

Unlike overspray, with Splatter Gun a reduced amount of chemical gets to the ground, and this spares many of the underlying native plants.

Directions Of Use

The splatter gun method involves applying a low volume of concentrated herbicide mix to foliage. A specialised nozzle produces large droplets of herbicide that can be applied from a distance of 6-10 meters away.
Only a small portion of the foliage needs to be sprayed so off target damage can be minimised and this technique is particularly useful in areas of difficult access or sensitive vegetation.
A marker dye is recommended to identify splatter bushes.
Apply approximately 15-20 millilitre of herbicide mix per splatter on large bushes to achieve the registered rate of 2 x 2ml per 0.5 metre of bush height.
Arch the spray over the top of the bush and down the front face and if treating dense lantana, applying one splatter every two strides, with an occasional horizontal pass low across the front edge of the bushes to treat any seedlings.
As with all herbicide treatments, apply to actively growing plants with full foliage.
Like all Woody Weed controls, follow-up treatments are recommended to control seedlings and/ or regrowth.
Manual or gas powered set up are commercially available.

Studies in northern NSW & QLD have shown that an experienced operator can shoot a one second stream of approximately 20 ml, out to ten metres, once every two metres.

This means at normal walking speed, in hilly terrain with 50% lantana coverage, a single operator can cover 0.25 ha in around 45 minutes using 20 litres (9:1 water to glyphosate mix).

Apparent Woody Herbicide is acceptable to use in Gas Powered Guns (i.e. Splatter Guns). You can find rates in Table D of the directions for use leaflet on page 8.

The Manual Splatter Gun 20mL is an effective method for delivering concentrated herbicides to noxious weeds. The main difference between the gas-powered guns and the manual guns is the effort required to expel the herbicide (gas-powered v hand-powered) and the size of the barrel (50mL v 20mL); hence the manual gun delivers a smaller quantity. This does not make the manual splatter gun less effective than the gas-powered gun, as the same herbicide mix is still applied to the target plants.

The NJ Phillips Manual Splatter Gun 20ml (PAM797) is supplied with a feed tube that should fit your existing Cydectin 5L Backpack. There is also a feed tube adaptor supplied if the barbed outlet on your backpack is a different size from the feed tube.

If you purchase the NJ Phillips Manual Splatter Gun 20ml (PAM797) & Semi-Collapsible Plastic Back Pack then you are all set. The Splatter Gun kit is supplied with 20mL Splatter Gun, Feed-Tube, Feed-Tube Springs, Feed-Tube Adaptor, Lubricant & User Instructions. Once connected to the Semi-Collapsible Plastic Back Pack then you are good to go. The only thing missing is the chemical.
